I already told cory that I am going out tomorrow, but I wanted to post it too, I know it's a moose hunting forum, but I am so excited about this,, me and my 22 year old boy are going out to try to rattle in a buck,, I hear they are in the pre-rut, and I wanna give it a try,, as soon as I get off work, I am diving into my gear, and he's been told to be alert and ready with boots on, and we are outa here!! I have 2 surplus tags to fill, and my good ol buck tag,, oh yea!!

thanks John, but we come home with an empty sack,, oh wait, no we didn't,, I managed to snag a couple of chickens

we had a buck come in, and stomp his feet at us, but he wouldn't present himself for a shot,, my son saw just his tail flicker, that was it..... but it's cool to know that he come into the rattle,, he might have winded us, although he didn't snort or anything
we heard his horns against brush too,, was exciting for us,, we are planning on going again early Wednesday morning, and try it again, in the area I wanted to go into today, but was already taken

I'm just gonna keep posting here rather than starting a new thread for our deer hunt,, I got a small doe on Saturday,, saw lots tho we think the rutt is in the vvvvvery beginnings,, I am planning on a trip out early Wednesday morning,, with my son,, gonna try rattling again,, and bringing my camera gear this time, maybe I'll get some pics to show you!!

we are hoping they'll respond to the rattle, and the area we got picked out is open, and we're going before light, so perhaps we'll be in before anybody can beat us to it!

well we were out this morning, I dragged along the 2 quads so we could both have our own, and only scared up 2. saw their tails going into the bush,, nothing else,, well until we got to town that is,, a nice 10 point buck wandering along the streets in city limits doesn't count I s'pose we did some walking and some rattling too, but it was so windy today, maybe they were too jumpy to be on the move,, I dunno

gee whiz,, them evasive deer really are winning!! we have seen tons, but just ain't getting to squeeze off on them,, well, ok, so we've squeezed off a few, but no luck as yet,, LOL we sure are having some fun chasing them around tho!! we've walked for a hundred miles it seems ;D

Sue it sounds like you are walking in circles if you have walked 100 miles. Try walking backwards it will shorten the distance and you will sneak up on them when they are not suspecting it ;D

Congrats on the buck, I saw the pictures on the other board. Well if the comment about walking backwards didn't actually work hhmmmmm, congrats again to you and your son memories soon not to be forgotten!

oh good, I was gonna post pics here too, but figured some or all of you guys would have seen them there yes fond memories indeed ;D
I couldn't be more proud... I have been smiling ever since!! I just wish giverguns could have been with us,, that would have made the day complete!
