When I have hunted moose with a rifle in the past it has been a 308 or my trusty old 303, latley I have been bow hunting and use an excalibur crossbow (exocet) and love it. I will be buying a new rifle for moose but I am not sure what calibur to buy, I have it narrowed down to 308, 30-06, 300 win mag or the new 300swm. What do you think. I think for moose you should go with either 300 win mag or 300swm. At long distance you will have the hitting power and you shot dosn't drop as much as it would with a 30-06. just my 2 cents Dovver

I have never hunted with a rifle for moose did own a 7mm mag Ruger m11. Loved that gun was an absolute tack driver. Made my longest shot ever with it coyote at 200 yards 150 gr. balistic tip = mist in the air on a coyote.lol. Would buy the same if ever had opportunity to rifle hunt again. Am using an Excalibur xbow exocet.

My moose gun is my Winchester Model 70 7mm Rem.Mag. with a 3.5x10-50mm Leupold scope. It's a heavy gun but steady as a rock.

Using a ExoMag this year. Also use a stainless stalker 300WSM and probably my favorite gun right now BLR in 358. I haven't taken a Moose with it but I got a 500+ bear, 2 deer and my buddy borrowed it and got a bull calf last year.

After a number of years with an old 8mm Mauser army rifle that had been poorly sporterized. But very accurate, more important than purrty to me. Me wife surprised me one Christmas with A-Bolt in 300 win mag that Santa really couldn't afford, that rifle has become my main moose shooter.

Sako Model 75 Stainless/Synthetic in 338 Win Mag for the last 5 years or so...Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 280 Rem prior to that. I own 14 different high powers, I feel comfortable with just about any of them (from 243 up to 375 h&h) except the 243, but the the 338 in my opinion is a real powerhouse moose calibre, that's the reason I use it.
