I don't know that much about bow hunting, but thought I would post something in the way of rifles. what is your weapon of choice? I love my 308 model 88.. (hence my nickname ) I have used it for 10 years now, and it's never let me down,, 2 years ago, I shot a 54 1/2" bull moose at 350+ yards, a neck shot, and he fell in his tracks,, does it get any better than that? my hubby always tells me to upgrade, or wants to buy me something new, and my reply is always the same,, "nope" ;D I like whats I got Sue ;D

I should add that the rifle I use, my hubby picked up from a buddy, it was all beaten up, and the stock was actually taped up with duct tape when I first saw it I thought,, "oh brother" LOL it was the identical rifle to what he had at the time, and had the action taken from the stock, and mounted onto a camoflage laminent stock, it's really nice, and made to fit me and only me,, had several people comment on how nice it is,, and then he mounted a scope on it for me,, it's my best friend out there in the wild woods Sue ;D

That's I nice rifle. I have a model 100 308 that I used years ago but I found it didn't have the hitting power for moose. I bought a 300 Win Mag a few years ago and love it for moose.
I still use the 308 for deer and love it too.

I carry around my Remington 7400, 30-06 Semi. It handles well and is comfortable for me to carry around.
Best Regards, DB

I know I'll take some flak for this but all I use is a 270. I love it and wouldn't trade it for the world. Both Moose I shot with it went down with 1 shot.

I started out with a modle 94 Win in 30 30 shot my first moose with that rifle at 15 years old. I stepped up to a modle 88 win in 308 and went on to shoot 14 moose with that rifle the last one i shot with it was a cow the last days of the moose season it had a bit of snow in the barrel and buldged it. so I moved on to a 7 in a Ruger M77 MKII did not like the caliber. So last summer I bought my self a Sako 75 hunter in 300 win mag and thus far all i have to say about the caliber is wow. I shot 5 deer with it last fall and had no runners they all hit the dirt where they were shot. I can not wait to try it on a moose..

Hey givver, What kind of damage did it do to the deer? My Dad is in the market for a new rifle. He has shot a 30.06 all his life and has wore it out. There is a 300 mag at the gunmiths for sale right now for 800 bucks. He was just concerend about it doing too much damage to deer though

I shot Barns Triple shocks outa mine and it didn't realy do much damage to them they just hit the dirt where the stood. However because the 300 has so much energy ifn ya hit bone i think it will do damage.
One more thing i would like to say is the solid copper bullits I shot out of my 300 made no blood shot on any of the deer I flawgged with it
OUT Standing Rifle in my opinion..

When I have hunted moose with a rifle in the past it has been a 308 or my trusty old 303, latley I have been bow hunting and use an excalibur crossbow (exocet) and love it. I will be buying a new rifle for moose but I am not sure what calibur to buy, I have it narrowed down to 308, 30-06, 300 win mag or the new 300swm. What do you think.

I use Browning 7mm Safari semi for moose. Nice gun, never jams, a little on the heavy side though, but accurate like nothing I've used so far. Oh did I mention, nothing I hit ever ran away! ;)lol
