Well the morning started like most others, out set up before light, light came and as patterned Gobble gobble, yes! I gave a few soft calls and then the hen there went nuts, as she was calling the Tom was gobbling, then it happened, I here something look around and a coyote snuck up on my dekes, when he realized they were rubber he left, but those turkeys saw him, and they were quiet. A few minutes past and I knew it was fly down time a few minutes prior, in hope to rest there minds I began calling again, the hen replied, no gobbler.
After a while of playing this game with the hen, who is still in the tree, I look down the fields and here comes 5 Turkeys, I see 2 toms. They are making there way up to me when the hen I had been conversing with flys down with them, she makes her way to my decoys, but the other hens are walking around at about 70 yards and the toms are in tow.
The hen at my decoy leaves to join her new found flock, and I start calling again but the hens keep pulling them away, now they are about 120 yards out, I get my QB gobble call out and let it hammer a couple of times after a series of yelps. They appear interested because now the hens are 50 yards away from them and they are strutting and looking at my dekes.
Now the real hens are getting upset they are calling like crazy trying to get the Toms to come with them, I thought I am going to lose this contest, all the while the gobblers are gobbling at me, them, dump trucks, geese, I decide its now or never and they are thinking of leaving again, so I start into some aggressive calling, clucks and yelps, now the Toms are losing it, they start my way!
This part seemed to take forever, but still great, I finally got to hear the spit and drum, it was cool, the smaller bird of the two broke strut and was kind of veering of, but the big boy doing the spitting and drumming, was coming in, but a step at a time and then he would strut after every step.
Finally he starts moving a little quicker, he comes in range, he breaks strut looks back at the other Tom, I raise and POW, down for the count Yahoo, the other Tom gobbles goes over to check him out, I call, he gobbles he hung around for a few minutes, and finally left.
