I have the garmin etrex legend, and find it to suit my needs just fine,, the price has come down lots too,, I have mapping programs given to me that work dandy,, I use it during hunting season while I am off on one of my wild goose (moose) chases,, LOL and it always gets me back,, and also use it for geocaching my hubby was always afraid I was going to get lost,, so this was his insurance I was going to come back ;D Sue

I have a Garmin Rino 110, very basic but it has a FRS/GMRS radio on the unit as well, there benefit is really only if you can get the rest of your gang to get one. We have 5 in our group. It will send your location to the other users when you talk to eachother. 10

I have the Magellan 210 and for a first time GPS user it's been real good for my applications and simple to use. I think it's still $189.00 at Walmart.
Best Regards, DB

I too have a Garmin Legend and am happy with it. Except I don't use it much. I find it a little hard to read the screen but that's my own eyes.
The reason I went with a Garmin was that I found there were alot of user groups etc. that were using that brand. Hence when you had questions, etc it was easy to find the answers.
Both the Magellan and Garmin are great choices and you can't go wrong with either.
Get yourself the topographical maps for your pc and you will be able to upload / download data to the unit of your various treks out in the wild.
